The condensate discharged by a lubricated air compressor contains a significant quantity of oil and solid particles that, if not properly removed, will seriously pollute the environment.
The latest Directive 91/271/CEE concerning urban backwaters treatment and the 91/676/CEE concerning water protection against pollution caused by nitrates are clearly indicating the maximum amount of oil that can be contained in the discharged condensation without infringing the law.
Max hydrocarbon content:
- 5 mg/l into surface water.
- 10 mg/l into public sewers.
In the last 10 years several different oil/water separators have been launched into the market, but none of them offers a complete solution to the condensate problem: easy to size, install, test and maintain.
Because of the different type of compressors, lubricanting oils, climates and temperatures throughout the year, drain traps used in the system, environment and pollution, sizing and selection of existing separators as been developed more on field experience than with correction factors.
Most of these products, after an initial period where everything appears to work correctly, start to show a decrease in performance because of a lack of maintenance, due to the difficulty in understanding when the filter elements need to be replaced.
Problems of flooding caused by blockage of the filter elements are very common in the market.
More often the procedure to replace a filter element is complicate and unfriendly. Disposal of the saturated filters has always been an head-ache.
The new water oil separator system has been introduced to the market, specifically to solve all the above described problems in a unique way.
The new separator, thanks to a 2-stage filtering system, will adsorb all the necessary amount of contaminants without the need of complicated formulas to size the unit.
IT ADSORBS EVERY TYPE OF OIL. EVEN A MIXTURE OF SEVERAL OILS. Because of its capacity to adsorb the oil, IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE PERFECTLY LEVEL and WORKS WITH ANY TYPE OF CONDENSATE DRAIN (MANUAL, TIMED OR CAPACITY DRAINS).
The system is based upon a simple process of filtration in 2 stages through 2 different filters.
From the inlet connection , condensation is introduced into a noise/pressure reduction pre-chamber (1) to allow the condensate to flow smoothly inside the separator.
In this chamber, solid particles are retained by the demister path (2) and any residual, de-compressed air is discharged from the top par t (3) through an odour-removing act ivated carbon filter.
After this initial stage the mixture of water and oil flows via gravity down through the first filter (4) which, thanks to its physical characterist ics, intercepts "only" the oil, and the water is consequently free to flow into the second stage of filtration where a deep bed of activated carbon (5) adsorbs any residual traces of oil, before the water is discharged from the outlet port.
A patented electronic device (6) located next to the first filter (4) which gradually indicates the efficiency level of the first filter, allowing an easy check up of the unit.
When the filter (4) is saturated an ALARM is shown in the display, and a remote free contact advises the operator when the filters must be replaced.
